File and permissions help keeping your important files safe. If you're using linux/unix, it's important to know what they mean.
- Read: open and read the file.
- Write: modify the file.
- Execute: run the file as program.
Watch out for folder permissions, they have a different meaning than the same bits on files!
- Read: list folder contents.
- Write: create, rename and remove files.
- Execute: open/enter folder.
The special bits below are not required.
